Yael Laroes (1992) is a portrait photographer, based in Sassenheim, the Netherlands.

Her graduation project went viral and got a lot of positive publicity, on radio, tv, the newspapers and the social media. She created self-portraits: uneasy, confrontational, naked. Dealing with all prejudices and judgements surrounding people of weight.

She finished her studies at the University of Applied Science July 2019, being rewarded the highest marks of her year for this strong series. September 2019 she started a Master Lens Based Media at the Piet Zwart Institute.

In her work she is inspired by surrealism. Her work is raw and stripped out of comfort. Yael is a silent observer. And always looking for the power and identity each picture should have. “As a photographer I find it important to stay true to myself when I create something.” - Yael
